Uratarina career story Ali

Ali, Global Manufacturing Engineer, Gothenburg, Sweden

Ali holds several degrees, including a BSc in Industrial Engineering and a master’s degree in Supply Chain Management. During his master’s thesis at Volvo Cars, he networked with an employee from Comatec and received the contact information of Comatec Sweden’s CEO, Anders Rohdin, to whom he expressed his interest in working as a consultant. Being active paid off and shortly after his graduation, he started his role as a Global Manufacturing Engineer.

In his daily work he is involved in developing Volvo Cars’ first in-house inverter, a key component of the electric powertrain. Working closely with engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams, Ali ensures the product meets Volvo’s technical, cost, and quality standards. His role focuses on aligning development with all requirements to successfully industrialize the product concept for full-scale production.

– My daily work is dynamic, requiring me to adapt to new challenges and priorities. I am constantly evaluating design risks, identifying potential manufacturing constraints, and implementing proactive solutions to ensure a smooth production process. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, analyzing data to anticipate issues, and optimizing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. By staying ahead of potential risks, I contribute to a seamless transition from development to industrialization, he says.

Ali says his expertise has developed while working at Comatec as he was given more various and challenging assignments that helped him grow both socially and technically.

– Since networking is a big part of my role, I’ve learned new and better ways to improve collaborations and build strong working relationships. At the same time, working in electric mobility, a fast-evolving and complex field, means I’m constantly learning. Every day brings new insights, making me appreciate the depth and challenges of the industry even more.

When asked what the best thing in his work is, Ali smiles widely.

– There’s many! I have the chance of solving complex technical challenges, collaborating with experts across different fields, and seeing firsthand how a concept transforms into a fully industrialized product. Working on innovative projects provides endless learning opportunities, from new technologies to manufacturing processes, making every day both dynamic and rewarding.

– In addition, I can collaborate with diverse teams both domestically and internationally. This experience not only enhances my technical skills but also allows me to understand how different stakeholders and cultures think and operate, improving my ability to navigate various perspectives and work styles.

But Ali has also noticed that working in a new and future-shaping field, it is crucial to take a proactive approach by involving all stakeholders and experienced professionals throughout the product development and production integration process. This ensures a well-informed and efficient progression, minimises risks and optimises results. Ali talks warmly about his boss Anders Rohdin saying his approach fosters an environment where everyone feels heard and valued, which makes working truly rewarding.

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of applying to Comatec, Ali?

– I was told that “at Comatec your interests and career goals are a top priority, we focus on helping you grow and succeed in your professional journey”. I definitely can support this statement from my personal experience. For example, I expressed my interest on taking new responsibilities, and I was provided the assignment which has really developed my project management skills. I will soon begin a new role as a Project Leader.
