Comatec’s Turku office organised a “A day as an engineer” event in which engineering students of the Turku University of Applied Sciences spent a day at the office on real assignments.
“It’s important to connect with the students in our field. We provide students with traineeship and final project opportunities and also employment opportunities once they have graduated,” says Business Unit Manager Sami-Jussi Hollo, head of Comatec’s Turku office.
The day did not consist of company presentations alone, as the students were also able to roll up their sleeves and get to work. One of the tasks given to third-year mechanical engineering students was to work on reinforcement solutions for the protective shields of bucket loaders. The designs had to incorporate the ease of use, safety, manufacturability and durability of the locking solutions in varying conditions.
“It’s great to be able to co-operate with companies in various stages of our studies. Turku University of Applied Sciences has plenty of good partners in various fields of mechanical engineering,” says Jussi Liikkanen, in charge of product development specialisation studies within mechanical engineering.
Doing things in practice and completing real projects is the best way to learn. ”A day as an engineer” gave students in the final stages of their studies a good idea of what it is like to work in an engineering company.
